Chair's Message

Dear Alumni, Colleagues, and Friends:

Greetings from Morgantown!

I hope the festivities of the holiday season is keeping your spirit up, allowing you to reflect upon the challenges and to rejoice the triumphs of 2023.

The IMSE department had an eventful 2023. We welcomed two new faculty members Dr. Omar Al-Shebeeb and Dr. Makenzie Dolly who joined our team as the teaching assistant professors. Over 64 students graduated from the Industrial Engineering program. The job placement rate remained very high at over 95% with an average salary of $75K (range $65K to $100K) for the BSIE graduates. The BSIE students also had the highest internship and co-op experience numbers in the Statler College.

Our Safety Management program moved completely online and had a successful ABET visit, making it one of the very few ABET accredited online safety graduate programs in the country. Our recently launched online Occupational Safety and Health Ph.D. program provides unique education opportunities for professionals who aspire to advance their knowledge, research potential, and overall expertise. The enrollment in our relatively new online Engineering Management program has also been growing – the curriculum is focused on management of large engineering operations and brings together topics from across several fields to help develop the leadership skills. The IMSE department will continue to enhance and strengthen its high-quality fully online, asynchronous degree programs to provide career development and continuing education opportunities.

We continued to organize several student centric and alumni engagement activities:

  • IE visiting committee organized career path presentations.
  • Monthly alumni panels have been phenomenal in providing networking and professional mentoring opportunities.
  • IISE student chapter hosted alumni speakers and employer presentations from Giant Eagle, RQM+, Deloitte, NASA, Hershey and United Airlines.
  • IE Academy and visiting committee reviewed capstone projects.
  • An active and vibrant LinkedIn account has been maintained to facilitate networking and professional development opportunities for our students, faculty and alumni.

I strongly encourage you to connect with the IMSE on linkedIn to receive the latest news and updates from the department.

As the IMSE department continue its journey in ensuring success of students, faculty and alumni, your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated. Please contact me with your thoughts/suggestions in taking the IMSE department forward to achieve greater heights!

I wish you all my very best and a happy, healthy and safe holiday season. May the new year bring success, happiness and fulfillment of your aspirations!

Warm regards,
