Dear MMAE Community,
In this newsletter, you will read that we’ve had a great semester in the department with a few big changes. First, after strong support from faculty and visiting committee, we’ve adopted a new name that formally recognizes and celebrates our strengths in each of the fields of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering. Second, we have launched a new undergraduate degree program in robotics engineering that will be housed in the department and offered in partnership with the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Meanwhile, our faculty continue to lead high profile research programs spanning across all of our strengths. Most recently, you will read that Professors Ed Sabolsky and Xingbo Liu have secured $13.8 million from the US DOE for their research in clean hydrogen technologies, Professor Yu Gu has been recognized as the inaugural holder of MMAE Academy of Distinguished Alumni Professorship, and that Assistant Professor Hang Woon Lee has been recognized as the recipient of a newly established college-wide Herbert P. Dripps Faculty Fellowship. As we approach the summer, we are all so excited to watch our newest graduates cross the stage and to witness our students excel in so many student design challenges and competitions hosted all over the country.
Wishing you the best summer!
