After a year of competition in the Space Robotics Challenge Phase 2, a NASA Centennial Challenge, the robotics team from the Statler College has moved on to the final round, making them eligible to compete for the $185,000 grand prize.

Debangsu Bhattacharyya, GE Plastics Professor of chemical and biomedical engineering in the Statler College, hopes to quell any future carbon emissions surges as he’s earned $650,000 in U.S. Department of Energy funding spread over four carbon capture-related projects.

Assistant Professor Kevin Bandura contributed to a study recently published in Nature, which showed that some fast radio bursts are coming from a galactic magnetar, a neutron star 32,000 light-years from Earth that is believed to have an extremely strong magnetic field.

Understanding the financial challenges ahead of students today, Keith Harvey, president and CEO of Kaiser Aluminum, and his wife, Cindy Harvey, have donated $50,000 to the Statler College to establish a scholarship for students interested in pursuing a career in engineering.
