Social media can be much more than political rants and snapshots of scrumptious meals or furry friends. Professor Xin Li and Post-doctoral Fellow Chuanbo Hu in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering have found that social networking platforms can serve as a direct-to-consumer marketing tool for drug dealers to sell illicit drugs.

Dear friends and colleagues,

In April, the WVU community came together to celebrate faculty and students who pursue ground-breaking research in all disciplines during its Fourth Annual Research Week. The Statler College celebrated Research Week with a research open house, a distinguished seminar by Statler College Visiting Committee Member Kirk Gerdes, a leader in the field of solid oxide fuel cells and associate director of research and innovation at the National Energy Technology Laboratory, laboratory tours, and a Graduate Student Symposium and Undergraduate Poster Session. We take great pride in our researchers at the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources! I encourage you to visit our social media pages that highlight our researchers, and please take a moment to read the stories above that showcase our excellence in engineering and computer science. I’d like to add that spring commencement is approaching quickly, and I hope you join us as we say goodbye to the Class of 2022 and welcome a new generation of alumni.

Sincerely,

Pedro Mago
