Anurag Srivastava, professor and chair of the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering in the Statler College, will support the construction and analysis of a “solar testbed” at the I-79 Technology Park in Fairmont. The testbed has been selected for a $2.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, pending approval and finalization of award negotiations, with land donated by the High Technology Foundation and in collaboration with utility company First Energy.

Natural gas is a booming industry in West Virginia and the United States, accounting for more than 38 percent of the nation's total energy consumption. One West Virginia University researcher is hoping to capitalize on valuable untapped chemicals that can be formed from shale gas, commonly found throughout Appalachia.

Zeyu Liu, assistant professor of industrial and management systems engineering at the Statler College, received the Harvey J. Greenberg Research Award from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences Computing Society. Liu was selected for the award due to his research on early sepsis prediction using integrated machine learning.

Two students from the Statler College, have been selected for the 2023 West Virginia Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellows Program, which is part of West Virginia University’s Bridge Initiative for Science and Technology Policy, Leadership, and Communications.

A new report by the National Science Foundation ranked the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources in the top 23 percent of engineering programs in the United States, coming in at 94 among 413 institutions.

Many exciting things are happening this spring semester at the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University. The articles presented in this issue of EngineeringWV Wired are just an example of the outstanding research done by faculty and students and the College’s ongoing commitment to being leaders of innovation.
I am also excited to share that the National Science Foundation has recently ranked our College research program in the top 100 in the latest Higher Education Research and Development Survey. I am extremely proud of this designation and of all the achievements outlined in this issue, which are only made possible by the dedication and passion of our faculty and students in the College.
I also want to ask you to mark your calendars for March 22, WVU’s sixth annual Day of Giving. Your support will make a significant difference today for a stronger tomorrow.
