Dean's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,

This summer began with outstanding accomplishments from our students. First, our EcoCAR team placed second overall in the EcoCAR EV Challenge Year 1 competition, and our University Rover Challenge team won first place in the international Mars rover challenge competition. The University is buzzing with pride for our teams, and on behalf of our college, we are so proud of our students and their faculty advisors.

We had many significant accomplishments from our faculty and alumni this past month. Kakan Dey, Assistant Professor in the Wadsworth Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, received an NSF CAREER award to develop technology to reimagine road maintenance and transportation, Xingbo Liu, Associate Dean for Research, received an award from the U.S. Department of Energy for his contributions to developing hydrogen production technologies and WVU mining engineering alumnus J. Wayne Richards was inducted to the Order of Vandalia for his service and loyalty to the state of West Virginia.

These accomplishments from our students, staff, faculty, and alumni are a reflection of our Mountaineer values and dedication to excellence in our field. I look forward to celebrating more accomplishments with each of you as the summer continues.

Let's Go!
