Built on Bravery: How WVU's Mine Rescue Team Was Born

We’re built different here in West Virginia. Grit runs in our blood, and we know what it means to work hard.  Mountaineers and coal miners have shaped the Mountain State, from seasoned veterans who sacrificed in the depths of traditional industry to the next wave of engineers honing their skills today at the Statler College. We’re paying homage to how intergenerational collaboration, knowledge transfers and fresh perspectives are shaping the future.

Dean's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,

As we approach the holiday season, I can't help but be thankful for all the accomplishments of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni. This month's acknowledgments can be summed up in one word: support.

In this issue of EngineeringWV Wired, we are thrilled to share the news about our researchers receiving a $2.5 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to help regional manufacturers meet evolving product guidelines, as well as $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to combat America's abundant plastic waste with microwave technology.

Our faculty and staff take great pride in supporting STEM opportunities for the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. A prime example is this year's 35th annual Pumpkin Drop, where K-12 students test their engineering skills by building a container to help a pumpkin survive the 11-story drop.

We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support from our alumni, which comes in many different ways, including contributions to enhance on-campus learning, scholarships, research initiatives, laboratory improvements, and sharing their valuable experiences. This support and guidance are instrumental in the success of our students' academic journeys.

As we reflect during this time of the year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your support and ongoing interest in our college. Together, we continue to grow, prosper, and succeed, and I couldn't be more proud of all the members of our Statler College family.

Let's Go!
