Like most rising seniors at WVU, Moriah Frazier began searching for the perfect capstone thesis project as she approached her final year at the University. But Frazier, who hails from Clarksburg, Maryland, is a cybersecurity major. A fairly new program, cybersecurity didn’t yet have many established capstone projects for her to choose from. Frazier is working with faculty in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering to change that.

Dear friends and colleagues,
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, and staff. Their contributions have been invaluable to the success of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.
In this issue of EngineeringWV Wired, we are proud to highlight the accomplishments of our faculty, students, and alumni, which demonstrate our unwavering commitment to academic excellence. These achievements include the incredible work of Moriah Frazier, a senior studying cybersecurity who is developing a new capstone project by using drone hacking to develop ways to protect them from cyberattacks. Additionally, a team of WVU industrial engineers is partnering with local businesses to protect underprivileged communities using funding from the EPA. We also celebrated the 34th anniversary of the Annual Pumpkin Drop, where over 240 local and regional K-12 teams used STEM to save plummeting pumpkins from an 11-story building.
Our successes wouldn't be possible without the support of our donors, and the recent gift from the EQT Foundation will assist in launching a new midstream engineering program, providing more opportunities for our students.
It's been a great month at the Statler College, thanks to the dedicated efforts and hard work of our faculty, students, and staff.
I wish you a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Let’s go!
