Dean's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,

This summer began with outstanding accomplishments from our students and faculty. This month, we're proud to feature the incredible achievement of our Robotics Team, who took second place at this year's international University Rover Challenge in Utah. We are all incredibly proud of the students and the faculty advisor, Dr. Yu Gu.

I encourage you to read about the accomplishments of our dedicated students, faculty, and alumni in the college. Hannah McFadden, an aerospace engineering undergraduate student, has been awarded the prestigious SMART Scholarship and Christopher Smith, a biomedical engineering student, received the prestigious 2024 Goldwater Scholarship. Akua Oppong-Anane, a teaching assistant professor in Fundamentals of Engineering, received the Thriving Women Program award to spearhead a mentorship program for minoritized and women students in STEM disciplines. In addition, Stephen Cain, biomedical engineering assistant professor, was named Statler College Visiting Committee Faculty Fellow, and Yuhe Tian, chemical engineering assistant professor, was named the Stuart and Karen Goodman Faculty Fellow. We are incredibly grateful for the support of the College Visiting Committee and Stuart and Karen Goodman in establishing two new faculty fellowships to support some of our outstanding faculty. Also, congratulations to WVU civil engineering alumnus Robert Orders, who was inducted into the Order of Vandalia for his service and loyalty to the state of West Virginia.

These accomplishments reflect our Mountaineer values and dedication to excellence. I look forward to celebrating many more achievements with each of you as the summer continues.

Let’s go!
