With $1.75 million in funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a team of West Virginia University researchers will collaborate with teams at Marshall and Florida International University to address cybersecurity needs in AI technologies.

With $151,629 in grant funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, researchers at the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources have developed a promising new method of utilizing dataless neural networks to respond to a wide range of optimization problems.

Researchers at WVU, in partnership with Parthian Battery Solutions, have been awarded $274,951 by the National Science Foundation to give electric vehicle batteries a second life in efforts to cut down on waste.

Researchers at the Statler College have been awarded a $500,000 grant from the US Department of Energy’s Office of Basic Energy Science to develop nanoionic materials with applications for green hydrogen production, clean electricity generation, biofuel production and wastewater treatment.

Professor Yu Gu with the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering in the Statler College has been named to a distinguished professorship to elevate research and academic excellence.

The Statler College is thrilled to announce the launch of its groundbreaking Midstream Petroleum Engineering master’s and certificate program. The first of its kind, the online program answers a growing demand for trained and knowledgeable midstream engineers.

WVU co-hosted the 2024 Mine Drainage Task Force Symposium and 15th International Mine Water Association Congress, bringing together mining, water and reclamation experts from around the world who will provide the latest updates on research, regulations and practices involving mine drainage, water quality and rare earth element extraction.

A philanthropic gift from Antero Resources and Antero Midstream will forge new pathways for learning, discovery and societal impact through the WVU Statler College.

A determination to position WVU at the forefront of computer sciences and electrical engineering has inspired two alumni to contribute $750,000 to produce long-term alliances with best-in-class academic leaders.

Five exceptionally talented incoming WVU freshmen whose academic interests span the fields of humanities, medicine and science are eager to use their curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills to generate new ideas and innovative solutions for a better future as the 2024-25 WVU Foundation Scholars, the highest academic scholarship the University awards.

Five WVU students have joined an elite group of researchers who’ve been awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, a program aimed at supporting graduate education in STEM-based fields.

Seven Statler College students were recognized as Outstanding Seniors for their contributions and achievement in scholarship, leadership and service.

The Alumni Who Inspire! Program in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources recognizes alumni for their dedication to their professions, our college and West Virginia University. The program was launched in Fall 2023 as a monthly discussion board with alumni of the College.

Thousands of WVU graduates celebrated their successes Commencement Weekend May 10-12 alongside eight honorary degree recipients and two speakers during nine ceremonies at the Coliseum.

The Spring semester may be wrapping up for our students, but the Statler College is still busier than ever. We invite you to explore this month's features on the innovative research conducted by our faculty members in cybersecurity and AI and read about all the outstanding achievements of our students and faculty.

We want to express our gratitude for the generous support from industry leaders such as Antero, alumni Michael Manley and Rouzbeh Yassini, and Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering Academy members. These transformational gifts will provide incredible opportunities for our students and faculty in the college.

At last week's commencement, we had a great time celebrating the academic success of our Statler College community, and we're incredibly proud of our Spring 2024 graduates. I can't wait to see where their path leads them, but Country Roads will always lead them home. From one exciting event to another, we look forward to a fun-filled summer of K-12 engagement through our Challenge Camps and welcoming our next cohort of the best and brightest future engineers and computer scientists.
