Dean's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,

Every start of a new semester, our hallways are filled with energy, enthusiasm and so many accomplishments and recognitions from our faculty, students and alumni.

In this issue of EngineeringWV Wired, we invite you to read about the increasing external research expenditures in our College. Since 2020, we have seen a 72% rise in research and innovation efforts while also strengthening engineering education initiatives. Research is a fundamental part of the College's mission, and I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our faculty, staff and students.

Congratulations to Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering faculty Andrew Rhodes and Loren Rieth, along with Mohamed Hefeida from the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering on their selection to the Dean's Leadership Fellows Program. Also, congratulations to our mining engineering students who have done it again — securing first place in the Carlson Software Competition for the ninth time since 2000, led by their advisor and teaching assistant professor Amy McBrayer — a WVU mining engineering 2012 graduate who now shares the same success with her students.

We are constantly inspired by the experiences of our alumni and by the industry that believes in and supports our community, providing educational resources for our students to ensure their success. We want to express our gratitude to WVU alumnae Line-Audrey Nkule and Emily Calandrelli for sharing their inspiring academic and professional experiences, and to BHE GT&S for their support in providing state-of-the-art upgrades to our petroleum and natural gas engineering department.

As we delve deep into the recruitment season, we are excited to start hosting prospective students and their families on campus to share with them all the fantastic opportunities they will have at our College.

Let's Go!
