In the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources on Friday, halls were filled with brilliant minds and innovative research with the culmination of the 2025 West Virginia University Research Week. Engineer and scientist at Idaho National Laboratory Dong Ding delivered this year’s distinguished seminar on nuclear energy and students from across the College presented their posters as part of this year’s symposium.

Mago reappointed as Dean of the Statler College

Pedro J. Mago has been reappointed to his administrative post as Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources for another five-year term.

Nimbarte named director of Statler College online programs

Ashish Nimbarte, professor and chair of the industrial and management systems engineering department in the Statler College at WVU, has been named director of Statler College Online Programs. His appointment began March 2025.

Trio of WVU students named Goldwater Scholars

Three WVU students have been awarded the coveted Goldwater Scholarship, the nation’s premier undergraduate scholarship in mathematics, engineering and natural sciences which supports students with strong commitments to research careers.

Dean's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,  

We have had an extraordinary month, and the accomplishments of our faculty and students have been overwhelming.

In this edition of EngineeringWV Wired, you will find excellence in every aspect of our College. We are celebrating our Goldwater Scholars, NSF Graduate Research Fellows, WVU Bucklew and Foundation Scholars, and a Distinguished Member of the Year named by the National Society of Black Engineers. This month, we recognized the College's outstanding award winners for teaching, research, advising, staff, and the Dean's Fellows. Congratulations to all of them! These students, faculty, and staff exemplify the exceptional talent within our College, and I am incredibly proud of their achievements.

In response to the growing demand for online programming, we have recently appointed Ashish Nimbarte, chair and professor in the Industrial and Management Systems Engineering department, as the new director of the Statler College Online Programs. I am confident that he will develop innovative programs that will create additional opportunities for our students and boost enrollment.

When you visit our campus, you will notice significant improvements in our laboratories and classrooms. Learn more about how generous contributions from our alumni and industry partners are offering our faculty and students valuable opportunities to excel in their fields.

I am so very proud of our community. Every day is filled with remarkable discoveries, and I can't wait to see where they will go next.
