WVU's Ameri named to accreditation committees
Sam Ameri, chair of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at West Virginia University, has been named to two committee by ABET, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.
Ameri was reappointed to ABET's Finance Committee, which prepares the organization's annual budget for the next fiscal year. In addition, the committee maintains a five-year financial forecast and is charged with developing suitable supporting material relative to all financial aspects of ABET operations.
This is Ameri's third year on the committee.
Ameri was also named to ABET's Nominating Committee, which recommends candidates for various offices within the organization and for honors bestowed on volunteers that contribute greatly to ABET. The committee specifically recommends candidates to fulfill ABET roles, including the board of delegate offices. Ameri will serve on the committee through October 2016.
"I have been involved with ABET for many years and have great respect and confidence in its mission," Ameri said. "I was honored to be asked to serve in these roles and look forward to working closely with my fellow committee members in the year ahead, ensuring that the important work of ABET continues well into the future."
Founded in 1932 as the Engineers' Council for Professional Development, ABET accredits approximately 3,600 programs at more than 700 colleges and universities in 29 countries. Each year, more than 2,200 volunteers from 35 member societies contribute to ABET's goal of assuring confidence in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology education, serving as program evaluators, committee and council members, commissioners and members of its Board of Directors.
WVU's Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources has 12 ABET-accredited programs.
