Ameri recognized by Society of Petroleum Engineers
Samuel Ameri, chair and professor of petroleum and natural gas engineering at West Virginia University, has been recognized by the Society of Petroleum Engineering for outstanding teaching.
SPE’s regional awards recognize members who have contributed exceptional service and leadership to the society, as well as those who’ve made major professional contributions to their technical disciplines at the regional level. The Distinguished Achievement Award recognizes superiority in classroom teaching, excellence in research, significant contributions to the petroleum engineering profession and/or special effectiveness in advising and guiding students.
One of only 14 worldwide to be selected, Ameri was selected in the Eastern North America Region, which encompasses 25 states and the District of Columbia.
“I am grateful and honored to be recognized by my professional society,” said Ameri. “My career thus far has always been about watching and helping our incredible students grow, achieve and make their dreams come true. This award means a great deal to me and I am humbled to be the recipient. I take my role and the responsibility I carry very seriously, and look forward to the bright future ahead for our students, faculty and WVU.”
Ameri has received numerous awards, including being named the state’s Oil and Gas Man of the Year by the West Virginia Independent Oil and Gas Association. He has been named the PNGE Outstanding Professor several times and Outstanding Professor and Department Chair of the Year by the WVU Student Government Association Student Assembly.
SPE is the largest individual-member organization serving managers, engineers, scientists and other professionals worldwide in the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry.
