August 2023 Statler Circuit: Department Digest and Awards
Fundamentals of Engineering
The Fundamentals of Engineering program team represented WVU and the Statler College at the American Society for Engineering Education First Year Engineering Conference held July 30-Aug. 1, 2023 in Knoxville, TN. The First Year Engineering Conference provides an opportunity for academics and industry representatives to discuss and share relevant topics in the first-year engineering experience.
The FEP team consisting of Atheer Almasri, Todd Hamrick, Carter Hulcher, Akua Oppong-Anane and Xinyu Zhang, delivered a workshop on Tips for Top Tier Team Teaching. Three other presentations delivered by the team were: Investigation of Recruitment Communication Channels and Student Awareness of an Engineering Bridge Program via Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration, Using an Elevator Pitch Competition to Introduce Engineering Students to Entrepreneurship, and Engendering Engineering Inclusion through an Interactive Theatre Sketch and Team Selection using Team Leaders as Hiring Managers.
At the event, FEP Administrative Assistant Susie Huggins and FEP Teaching Professor Robin Hensel won second place for best paper for their presentation Engendering Engineering Inclusion through an Interactive Theatre Sketch.

Congratulations to the category winners and runners-up from WVU's 16th Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium held on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Thank you to all of our presenters for sharing your research and scholarship from this past summer! The Statler College had runners-up in the category of Physical Sciences and Engineering.
