Seery will assume the role of director and McPherson will serve as assistant director of the IT office.

“Both Marc and Dave bring to their new positions a long track record of customer service and technical knowledge with new perspectives on IT operations in support of teaching and research,” said Jason Dean, assistant dean of administration.

With over 24 years of professional experience at WVU, Seery brings keen industry expertise to the role to serve the needs of Statler’s digital communities. He will ensure classroom, research and administrative technology needs are met in addition to managing the tech support team and support of higher education academic professionals. Seery, who studied computer science at WVU from 1999-2002, previously served as professional technologist in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.

“As a higher education technology professional, it's necessary for me to understand current and future technology trends to guide the direction of technical teams that implement desktop, mobile, server and cloud solutions,” said Seery. “The higher education atmosphere is one of my favorite places to be. There’s tech innovation happening at every corner, especially in the Statler College. Having an impact on the up-and-coming minds of undergraduates, enabling researchers and empowering teachers gets me excited for work every day.”

McPherson is a 2017 graduate of East Ohio College with an associate’s degree in information technology. After serving as Desktop Support Technician for Mon Health since 2017, McPherson transitioned to the role of Statler College IT Help Desk Manager and has served in that position since 2020.

“In my new role as assistant director, I am enthusiastic about continuing to provide top-tier support for Statler College, while also gaining the opportunity to have greater influence over the college's technological needs,” McPherson said. “I eagerly look forward to the future at Statler College and West Virginia University in my new role.”

Statler ITS is excited to launch two modernization initiatives for the fall 2024 semester. The group’s help desk ticket system will transition to Atlassian’s Jira Service Management as well as a new self-help knowledge base using Atlassian Confluence. Both platforms will enable faster resolutions and greatly improve communications with the Statler College’s IT support specialists.
