November 2025 Statler Circuit: Department Digest and Awards
Chemical and Biomedical Engineering
Two undergraduate students from the chemical and biomedical engineering department received honors for their poster presentations at the 2025 AIChE Annual Meeting. Aidan Ghee earned second place in the AIChE Separations Division, guided by mentors Deepanjali Roy and Assistant Professor Dr. Oishi Sanyal. Samuel Zaloudek also secured second place in the AIChE Computing and Systems Technology Division, supported by mentors Austin Braniff and Assistant Professor Dr. Yuhe Tian.
Austin Braniff, chemical engineering Ph.D. student, who won the 2025 CAST Director Award for the best poster in the CAST division at the 2025 AIChE Annual Meeting.
Kevin DiGregorio, a chemical engineering alumnus, who received the 2025 Guy Peduto Award, recognizing those who go above and beyond to champion innovation, entrepreneurship, and small business growth in West Virginia.
Fundamentals of Engineering
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Statler College Ethics in Engineering Case Competition! The winners will represent the College at the annual Lockheed Martin Ethics in Engineering Case Competition in Bethesda, Maryland, in February 2026.
Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering
Sepehr Karimi, an electrical engineering Ph.D. student, received the Best Graduate Paper Award - Honorable Mention at the 57th North American Power Symposium (NAPS 2025).
Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering
Carolyn Seepersad, a Mechanical Engineering alumna, who has been appointed Chair of Georgia Tech's George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering.
Mining Engineering
Mining engineering graduates Jacob Horner, Richard Gerber, Benjamin Hardman, and Drew Reese for winning the David D. Eyer Senior Capstone Design Project Award at the SME PCMIA Annual Joint Meeting in Cannonsburg, PA. Additionally, Justin Waybright, Trent Cavanaugh, and Ashton Crawford secured second place in the competition.
