Chair's Message

Dear Alumni, Colleagues, and Friends:

Greetings from the Department of Industrial Management and Systems Engineering. As the year draws to a close, I wish to share some highlights from IMSE’s endeavors in 2025.

The BSIE program has improved its introductory industrial engineering courses by incorporating innovative teaching methods. A notable feature is the integration of Minecraft, a popular sandbox game, into IENG 220 Re-Engineering Management Systems. By using the gaming console to explore and apply industrial engineering concepts within a specially designed potion factory, students participate in a hands-on, immersive learning experience. This creative approach has received enthusiastic response from students.

We continued to strengthen our online offerings by adding two new microcredentials: Occupational Safety Leadership and Workplace Fire Safety. These offerings, in addition to our online graduate programs in Engineering Management, Safety Management and Occupational Safety and Health have been instrumental in providing continuing education opportunities, driving the upward trend in enrollment.

Our new minors in Sales Engineering and Technology Entrepreneurship will prepare students for the diverse roles they'll encounter in a rapidly changing technological world by providing them with top engineering and business knowledge.

The IISE student chapter has proudly received the GOLD Award for the third straight year, highlighting its exceptional performance, dedicated service, and outstanding achievements.

We are expanding our offerings with innovative curricula that directly address emerging workforce needs. Our ongoing efforts focus on developing programs in Data Analytics and Visualization, Manufacturing Engineering, and Healthcare Systems, preparing our students for success in high-demand fields.

As the department moves forward by leveraging its strengths to navigate the changing academic landscape, we remain grateful to our students, faculty, alumni, and colleagues from peer institutions for their support!

Wishing you all the very best and a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season!

Warm regards,

Ashish Nimbarte
