WVU Impact Awards

The WVU Impact Awards winners include the Statler College Advising Center team, Atheer Almasri, teaching assistant professor in the Fundamentals of Engineering Program, Philomena Krosmico, IMSE Career and Professional Mentor, the Lane Innovation Hub team, and Amy McBrayer, teaching assistant professor of Mining Engineering. Their incredible contributions to recruitment, outreach, service, and student retention are true examples of Mountaineer Values.

Industrial and Management Systems Engineering

The M.S. in Safety Management and Ph.D. in Occupational Safety and Health programs, in the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, received the Board of Certified Safety Professionals Graduate Safety Excellence Award. This national recognition, presented at the BCSP Research and Innovation (R&I) Summit, highlights WVU’s exceptional contributions to advancing education and practice in the fields of safety, health, and environmental (EHS) management.  It affirms the quality of both  programs, their integration of cutting-edge research and experiential learning into the curriculum, and their impact on workforce readiness in safety professions.


JuHyeong Ryu, assistant professor in Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at West Virginia University, has been awarded a 2025 Career Development Grant from the American Society of Safety Professionals Foundation. The grant provides targeted support for environmental health and safety professionals to further their certification, training, and professional development.

Since 1990, the ASSP Foundation has awarded in academic scholarships and Career Development Grants to students and professionals working in the environmental health and safety field. These grants provide financial support for certification expenses, conference participation, workshops, and other career-building opportunities.

This award also highlights the importance of continuous professional development for safety educators and researchers. By supporting Ryu’s growth, the ASSP Foundation contributes directly to enhancing WVU’s ability to deliver cutting-edge safety education and impactful research that benefits students, industry, and the profession as a whole.


Mining and Civil Engineering

Nathaniel Flowers, a senior in the dual degree program of Mining and Civil Engineering, won the Neptune Technology Group Scholarship this summer, one of the American Water Works Association's prestigious national scholarships. 

 

Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering

Ikponmwosa Iyegbekedo Bright and  Ali Sajedian, Ph.D. candidates in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department received the University Research Showcase Student Recognition award at Shale Insight 2025 held on September 16-18 at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, PA.
