Dean's Message

Dear friends and colleagues,

It has been an unbelievable semester — high-achieving students, inspiring alumni, and bringing innovative minds together through their research in artificial intelligence.

In this issue of EngineeringWV, discover AI across West Virginia University and industry partners through the 2025 Symposium “AI in Action: Navigating Challenges and Opportunities Across Domains.” The event united leaders, researchers, students, and professionals from both the university and industry to discuss how artificial intelligence is transforming our work, creativity, and problem-solving approaches.

At our Spring commencement, we celebrated significant milestones for our college and the journey of our honorary degree recipient, Jon Hammock. From his beginnings as a WVU computer science student to becoming a successful entrepreneur, his path was fueled by determination, pushing boundaries, and inspirational success.

Speaking of our graduates, I am incredibly proud of our innovative students and honored to celebrate their accomplishments at graduation. During the ceremony, we recognized two exceptional students as recipients of the Order of Augusta, along with eight outstanding seniors. The energy of that day was unmatched—and so was the pride I felt for every student who received their diploma.

As we wrap up this semester, I can't help but reflect on the outstanding achievements of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni. I want to sincerely thank each of them for their hard work and dedication to the success of our college. Their commitment has played a crucial role in helping us reach new heights. I am excited to see what the next academic year will bring.

Over the summer, we look forward to hosting K-12 students for the Engineering Challenge Camps and inspiring the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. I hope that in the next summer months, you have the opportunity to relax and enjoy quality time with your family, friends, and loved ones.

Let's Go!
