Wu named highly cited researcher by Clarivate Analytics
Nianqiang (Nick) Wu, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at West Virginia University , was named to Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher list for 2018.
Now in its fifth year, the citation analysis identifies influential researchers as determined by their peers around the globe – those who have consistently won recognition in the form of high citation counts over a decade. The Web of Science serves as the basis for the regular listings of researchers whose citation records position them in the top one percent by citation for their field and year.
The list, which includes more than 4,000 leading scientists in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, is comparable to the total number of members in both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. The number of highly cited researchers counts for 20 percent of all factors that contribute to the Academic Ranking of World Universities rankings.
Wu is the only researcher at West Virginia University to make the 2018 list.
“Pursuing innovation, coaching and working with students is a wonderful journey filled with passion and lasting joy,” Wu said. “My research is rooted in the land of the WVU campus. This recognition is derived from a collective team effort. I am grateful to all the students, postdoctoral fellows, colleagues and collaborators who have worked with me.”
Wu has authored or co-authored one book, three book chapters and 177 refereed journal articles in main-stream publications. His publications were cited about 3,000 times in 2018, achieving a total citation of about 17,000 throughout his career. Wu is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking contribution in the fundamental understanding of charge transfer and energy transfer in electrochemical and photoelectric materials and devices.
Wu is a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society and a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry. He is a recipient of the Benedum Distinguished Scholar Award and the Alice Hamilton Award for Excellence in Occupational Safety and Health, as well as the Statler College’s Outstanding Researcher Award. He served as chair of the Sensor Division in the Electrochemical Society and serves as an editorial advisory board member in several international journals including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Journal of Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage.-WVU-
