WVU announces 2019 Homecoming court, voting begins next week

Candidates forWest Virginia University’s2019Homecomingcourt have been selected and will now vie for the title of 2019 Homecoming queen and king.

All voting will take place on WVUENGAGEfrom 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 1 and 2. Students can vote using their accounts on their own computers.

The entire court will participate in the Homecoming Parade, which takes place on High Street Friday, Oct. 4.; the parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

The new queen and king will be crowned during a halftime ceremony at the WVU football game against Texas Saturday, Oct. 5, at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Homecoming queen candidates are:

Teresa Hoang, a member of the Honors Collegefrom Hurricane, is a senior computer sciencemajor with an emphasis in cybersecurity minoring in mathematics. She serves as a student ambassador and teaching assistant for Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resourcesand teaching assistant for the Department of Mathematics. Hoang is also an active member of the Student Government Association, Society of Women Engineers and Mountain Honorary. She is a WVU Engineering Excellence Scholar and the recipient of the Bucklew Scholarship and PROMISE Scholarship. She is sponsored by the Chi Omega Sorority.

Emyle Johnston, a senior marketingmajor from Weston, serves as the president and social media coordinator for WVU Collegiate 4-H and a student mentor for the WVU Extension Service. She is a member of the Baja SAE marketing team and actively involved in the John Chambers College of Business and EconomicsCenter for Career Readiness and Center for Career Development Programs. She is the recipient the College of Business and Economics Robbins Travel Award, Fred Haddad Economics Scholarship, Hall Business and Economics Scholarship and Order of Vandalia Scholarship. She is sponsored by WVU Collegiate 4-H.

Peyton Keener, a member of the Honors College from Charleston, is a senior accountingand political sciencemajor. She serves as the president of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and Order of Omega. She also serves as the development coordinator for WVU Camp Kesem, a student tutor with Mindfit WVUand the student experience committee chair for the Student Government Association. Keener is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, a former teaching assistant for the Political Science Department and has served as a student representative on the WVU Teaching and Assessment Committee. She is sponsored by the Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Meredith Phillips,a member of the Honors College from Hurricane, is a senior biomedical engineeringmajor. She serves as a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, Chi Alpha and Mountaineer Maniacs. Phillips also serves as the director of standards for the Alpha Omega Epsilon Sorority, a tutor in the Eugene V. Cilento Learning Center and performs undergraduate research in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. She has presented her research at the Annual BMES National Conference and is the recipient of the Engineering Excellence Scholarship and Presidential Honors Scholarship. She is sponsored by the Alpha Omega Epsilon Sorority.

Rachel Rogers,a member of the Honors College from Grafton, is a senior majoring in journalism. She serves as the president of the WVU Panhellenic Association, a communications intern for the WVU Foundationand a member of the Order of Omega, Phi Kappa Phi and the National Society of Leadership and Service. Rogers is a former writing tutor at the EberlyWriting Studio, Mountaineer Guide with the WVU Visitors Centerand developmental intern with Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia and a member of Circle K International. She is sponsored by the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Homecoming king candidates are:

Thaiddeus Dillie, a member of the Honors College from Weirton, is a senior biochemistrymajor.He serves as the alternate Mountaineer Mascot, a mentor for the WVU Honors College, a Student Life Ambassadorand a Student Government Association senator for the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Design. Dillie also serves as the vice president of the Global Business Brigades, a member of the WVU Figure Skating Club and is a former member of the Global Medical and Dental Brigades. He is the recipient of the Presidential Honors Scholarship. He is sponsored by the WVU Honors College.

Owen Gray,a member of the Honors College from Cleveland, Ohio, is a senior criminologyand philosophymajor. He serves as a member of the executive board and a former recruitment chair for the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity where he is actively involved in philanthropy and community service projects. Gray is also a former senator for the Student Government Association. He is the recipient of the Eberly College Achievement Scholarship and WVU Academic Excellence Level 1 Scholarship. He is sponsored by the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Seth Parmer,a senior international business managementmajor minoring in marketing from Modesto, California, serves as the philanthropy chair for the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and is a member of Delta Sigma Pi and the John Chambers College of Business and Economics Center for Career Readiness Career Program. He also serves as a tour leader with the WVU Visitors Center and a student worker with the WVU Foundation Mountaineer Line. In 2018, he traveled across the country with Build America to promote accessible recreation for people with disabilities. He is sponsored by the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.

Tyler Redding, a member of the Honors College from Blandon, Pennsylvania, is a senior social workmajor minoring in sociology. He serves as the associate director of the Mountaineer Maniacs, a tour guide with WVU Visitors Center and a New Student Orientation Leader. Redding serves as a mentor with the Honors College and teaching assistant with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Redding also served as student researcher with the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and WVU Librariesto preserve the memory of a local coal community through an oral history project titled, “ The Scott’s Run Memory Project.” He is sponsored by the Mountaineer Maniacs.

William Shultz, a senior animal and nutritional sciencemajor minoring in equine studies, addiction studiesand agribusiness managementfrom Summit Point, serves as the vice president of A Moment of Magic and volunteers his time to On Eagles’ Wings Therapeutic Horsemanship Center. He also serves as New Student Orientation Leader, teaching assistant for Equine Studies and is pursuing his certification as a therapeutic riding instructor. Shultz is a Davis-Michael Scholar and Addiction Studies Scholar and has been awarded the American FFA Degree. He is sponsored by A Moment of Magic Foundation.
