Graduating Foundation Scholar Profile: Miriam Demasi

A portrait of Miriam Demasi

While at WVU, Foundation scholar Miriam Demasi was drawn to the idea of intersecting technology and humanity. As a computer and electrical engineering major, she was a sister in Alpha Omega Epsilon, a professional sorority for women in engineering and technical sciences.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—

She served as the electronics lead for the University Rover Challenge team and was also involved in a variety of undergraduate research for the WVU Biometrics Lab. She also spent time tutoring other students, serving as a Statler College ambassador and working with Swipe out Hunger to organize meal swipe donations.

“Being a Foundation Scholar to me is about giving back to the community,” she said. “I was given an opportunity to make a difference through the financial support of the WVU Foundation, and I tried to spend my time at WVU to better myself and pursue my passions. I hope to take what I have learned and use it to better the community.”

Aside from her University involvement, Demasi interned three times with GE Aviation. However, her favorite memories come from the time she spent studying abroad in Bahrain, as she was able to explore a different culture and make many new friendships.

“I loved all my time as well in West Virginia. My favorite memories are times spent with my friends. No matter if we were hiking, exploring or even studying together, I cherish all the times I have had with them.”

After graduating, Demasi has accepted a job with Deloitte as a business technology analyst. She hopes to obtain a graduate degree in either sustainability management or technology/energy public policy.

“My biggest goal post-graduation is to keep learning and staying curious.”
