JANUARY 2024 STATLER CIRCUIT: DEPARTMENT DIGEST AND AWARDS

Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering 

Electrical Engineering Undergraduate student Mallory Anderson received an Honorable Mention for the 2023-2024 Computing Research Association Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Award (URA). This highly competitive award recognizes undergraduate students in college and universities across North America that show outstanding potential in computing research. 

Anderson’s project, entitled “SREP+SAST: A Comparison of Tools for Reverse Engineering Machine Code to Detect Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities in Binary Executables,” compares the effectiveness of different Software Reverse Engineering Products in terms of reproducing source code that cybersecurity vulnerabilities could be detected in. Former WVU student Max Campbell collaborated with Anderson and provided vital contributions to her research.
