Robert O. Orders, CEO of Orders Construction Company, Inc., is one of three people selected to be inducted into the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame.

WVU professor Hota GangaRao and Praveen Majjigapu, a Ph.D. student in civil engineering, have developed a system that will increase the strength and endurance of structures in earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and other large blasts, helping communities prevent catastrophe. The system is also beneficial for repairing historic or aging structures.

Praveen Majjigapu, a doctoral student in civil engineering at West Virginia University, has been named inaugural national chair for the Structural Engineering Institute Graduate Student Chapter Leadership Council. The council represents SEI Graduate Student Chapters at universities across the United States.

West Virginia Secretary of Commerce H. Wood “Woody” Thrasher, a 1977 graduate of West Virginia University, will be the speaker for the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources 2017 Commencement. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 13, at 1 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.

For the second straight year, a team from West Virginia University captured first place in the steel bridge competition at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Virginias Conference, held at Old Dominion University, in Norfolk, Virginia, March 30–April 1.
