As first-time participants in NASA’s prestigious Lunar Autonomy Challenge, engineering and computer science students from West Virginia University proved to be bold competitors in the world of artificial intelligence.
Eight remarkable members of the West Virginia University Class of 2025 who have distinguished themselves through academic excellence and by making significant contributions on campus, across the Mountain State and beyond have been honored with the Order of Augusta, the most prestigious University student award.

In the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources on Friday, halls were filled with brilliant minds and innovative research with the culmination of the 2025 West Virginia University Research Week. Engineer and scientist at Idaho National Laboratory Dong Ding delivered this year’s distinguished seminar on nuclear energy and students from across the College presented their posters as part of this year’s symposium.
Pedro Mago, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University, announced the winners of the College’s outstanding teaching, advising, faculty, graduate student researchers and staff awards for the 2024-2025 academic year on April 11, 2025.

Ashish Nimbarte, professor and chair of the
industrial and management systems engineering department in the
Statler College of Engineering Mineral Resources at
West Virginia University, has been named director of Statler College Online
Programs. His appointment began March 2025.
Trilogy Innovations, Inc., a nationally recognized SBA Certified 8(a) small and minority-owned systems and software engineering company, will donate funds for the creation of a cybersecurity laboratory at the West Virginia University Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.
Pedro J. Mago has been reappointed to his administrative post as Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University for another five-year term.
