WVU robotics team places fourth overall, earns top marks at international University Rover Challenge
Demonstrating technical precision and adaptability in one of the world’s premier student robotics competitions, a team of students from the West Virginia University Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources placed fourth overall at the 2026 University Rover Challenge, while earning first place in the System Acceptance Review and tying for first in the autonomous navigation mission.
Statler College Commencement: Celebrating a mining engineering legend, student excellence and future leaders
On Sunday May 17, 2026 at the West Virginia University Hope Coliseum, the newest cohort of Statler alumni joined an elite group of innovators and leaders around the globe. The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources awarded 419 undergrad and 67 graduate degrees to a new generation of engineers and computer scientists, celebrating their transition from the classroom to creating positive change in the world.
Top WVU seniors named, 8 honored with 2026 Order of Augusta
Six members of the
West Virginia University Class of 2026 and two December 2025 graduates have
earned the
Order of Augusta, the University’s most prestigious honor for academic excellence,
leadership and service. The eight inductees were selected from the 52
WVU Foundation Outstanding Seniors.
5 WVU Bucklew Scholars chosen as 2026 Foundation Scholars
Twenty incoming West Virginia University students from across the Mountain State who are driven by shared passions for innovation and service have been named the 2026-27 cohort of Bucklew Scholars. From this distinguished group of students, five have been selected as Foundation Scholars, the highest academic scholarship the University awards.

WVU mine rescue team earns second place at international competition, first in Confined Space Challenge
The West Virginia University Mine Rescue Team from the WVU Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources secured second place overall at this year’s international competition while earning a first-place finish in the Confined Space Challenge.
