The West Virginia University chapters of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) were announced the winners of the Statler College Day of Giving Student Organization Challenge.

A West Virginia University engineer is collaborating with an international team of engineers, surgeons and medical researchers to study a new hearing treatment to restore more natural hearing for individuals who are deaf or severely hard-of hearing. 

Undergraduate researchers from West Virginia University showcased their work at the State Capitol in Charleston Friday (Feb. 18), giving lawmakers a glimpse of the work they do in disease-carrying insects, the weather’s effect on renewable energy resources and the economic potential of petunias—just a few of the topics addressed by 49 presenters from WVU’s Morgantown and Beckley campuses.

P. V. Vijay, associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at West Virginia University, has been named a Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Fellow.

The campaign for West Virginia University Student Government Association ended Wednesday evening (March 9) as the SGA Judicial Court certified Chloe Hernandez and Pareera Uqaily as president and vice president, respectively, for the 2022-23 academic year. The pair represents the first female-minority ticket to win an SGA presidential election.

At the beginning of 2022 Amazon announced it would send Alexa to space as part of Artemis I, the first in a series of increasingly complex missions that will enable human exploration of the Moon and Mars. As a collaboration between Amazon, Lockheed Martin and Cisco, many engineers are integrating Alexa into deep space missions, including a West Virginia University alumnus.

In celebration of the 2022 Black History Month theme – Black Health and Wellness – theBenjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources invited Professor Anthony Guiseppi-Elie, founding dean of Anderson University College of Engineering, to speak on interfacing biology and engineering, his personal story as a Black engineer and entrepreneur, and how he is making a difference in science and education.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is honoring students, alumni and faculty from diverse backgrounds to showcase their successes in engineering and beyond and share how they continue to make a difference in society.
